New private law cases received by Cafcass in April drop by 8 per cent, year on year

In April 2015, Cafcass received a total of
2,942 new private law cases. This is a
8% decrease on April 2014 levels.
Between
April 2014 and
March 2015 Cafcass received a total of
34,278 new private law cases.
This figure shows a decrease of
27% from the
46,636 cases received in the previous financial year.
New cases received during the first six months were 15% higher than the same period in the previous year and demand in April, May, June, July and August, was the highest ever recorded by Cafcass in those individual months. The rise in demand then slowed down during the latter part of the year, with demand for all months from October 2013 onwards lower than the same months in the previous financial year.
