In May 2015, Cafcass received a total of 2,880 new private law cases. This is a 34% increase on May 2014 levels.

May 2014 was the lowest number of new cases ever recorded for Cafcass.

Between April 2014 and March 2015 Cafcass received a total of 34,246 new private law cases.

This figure shows a decrease of 27% from the 46,636 cases received in the previous financial year.

New cases received during the first six months were 15% higher than the same period in the previous year and demand in April, May, June, July and August, was the highest ever recorded by Cafcass in those individual months. The rise in demand then slowed down during the latter part of the year, with demand for all months from October 2013 onwards lower than the same months in the previous financial year.

The full figures are available on the Cafcass website.
