(Family Division; Ryder J; 3 March 2008)
Two adoption orders obtained in India under the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act 1956 had resulted in adoptions within the definition of 'adoption' in Adoption and Children Act 2002, s 66(1)(e) and Chapter 4. The process in respect of both had been rigorous and directed towards the child's best interests, involving home study reports, references and proofs of parental consent to adoption or proof of abandonment.
