This article explores some of the key themes of the 9th World Congress on Family Law & Children’s Rights, which took place in Cambridge in July. The conference considered a number of current issues through interdisciplinary and comparative lenses, including the participation of children in family proceedings and how to approach domestic abuse, with a view to developing ‘resolutions’ for best practice in those key areas.
The article outlines what was discussed, summarises key conclusions, and seeks to signpost some of the core research referred to by those who presented. This includes insights from psychologists regarding Adverse Childhood Experiences, discussion by social work professionals in the context of best practice in international kinship care, and areas of potential procedural reform as seen in Australia around domestic abuse, transparency, and the introduction of court support dogs.
