The Civil Partnership Act 2004 in Force

Date:22 NOV 2005

Mark Harper and Katharine Landells, Solicitors, Withers. The Civil Partnership Act 2004 (the Act) is over 400 pages long and the authors note that almost every statutory provision applicable to civil marriage has been copied across by the civil servants who drafted the new Act. The article provides an overview of the new Act's provisions regarding the formation of civil partnerships, the dissolution of civil partnerships, financial claims, children, death and tax, foreign civil partnerships and overseas relationships.
