On 3 June 2025, Mr Justice MacDonald handed down judgment in A Local Authority v X (Attendance of Experts) [2025] EWFC 137 in respect of a mother and father’s application pursuant to Family Procedure Rules 2010 r 25.9(2) for a direction that specific experts attend to give oral evidence on the grounds that it was necessary for them to do so in the interests of justice.

This article examines the case and deals with the procedure that must be followed and test that should now be applied by the court when a party seeks a direction under Family Procedure Rules 2010 r 25.9(2).
