The European Court of Human Rights held that there was a bond between the applicants and their adopted children and that the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms 1950, Art 8 applied. A potential relationship such as that created by a lawful adoption order was sufficient to attract protection under Art 8.
