New legal careers platform targets recruitment pressures in family law sector

A newly launched legal careers platform is aiming to reshape recruitment in the legal sector by connecting job seekers directly with verified and regulated law firms, including specialist family law practices.

LawBoard, which launched last month, has created profiles for nearly 9,000 firms regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, offering dedicated career pages and recruitment tools across a range of practice areas including family law, probate, private client and criminal law.

The platform combines firm profiles with a salary benchmarking tool designed to provide practitioners with regional and practice-area comparisons across a range of legal roles, including solicitors, legal executives, paralegals, trainees and legal secretaries.

The launch comes amid continuing recruitment and retention challenges across the legal profession. The Law Society of England and Wales identified talent acquisition, staff retention and skills shortages among the principal pressures facing mid-sized firms in its 2025 strategic sector insights report.

LawBoard said the platform was developed in response to changing expectations among legal professionals, particularly in areas such as family law where demanding caseloads and burnout can contribute to high staff turnover.

The company said firms are increasingly seeking ways to differentiate themselves not only through salary offerings but also by promoting workplace culture, flexibility and staff wellbeing to prospective candidates.

Under the model, every SRA-regulated firm receives a free verified profile built using publicly available regulatory data. Firms can then choose to enhance those profiles with additional branding, information about workplace culture, team structure and employee benefits.

The platform also places significant emphasis on candidate privacy. User profiles remain hidden until activated, current employers can be blocked entirely, and recruiters may only contact candidates who have specifically opted in.

Ben Holtom, creator of LawBoard, said the platform was designed to reflect how legal professionals typically approach career moves.

He said many lawyers research potential employers discreetly long before formally applying for roles and often lack a centralised platform where they can compare opportunities and salary expectations without immediately becoming visible to recruiters or employers.

LawBoard spans 24 legal practice areas and positions itself as both a recruitment and research platform, allowing candidates to contact firms directly without placement fees being attached to introductions.

The platform’s arrival reflects wider changes in legal sector recruitment as firms increasingly compete for experienced practitioners in a challenging hiring market, particularly within specialist and high-pressure areas such as family law.
