MPs recommend abortion laws to be relaxed

A report from the Commons Science and Technology Committee on scientific developments relating to the Abortion Act 1967 published on Wednesday found that Britain's abortion laws should be relaxed to make it easier to get a termination. MPs said that the requirement for two doctors to approve the procedure should be removed. The Committee concluded that there is no scientific basis to suggest that the maximum time limit for an abortion should be reduced from 24 weeks. Two committee members from the Conservative party, Nadine Dorries and Bob Spink, published a minority report calling for the laws to be tightened.
