Lomas v Parle - Coherent and effective remedies for victims of domestic violence: time for an integrated domestic violence court? [2004] CFLQ 317

Date:22 SEP 2011

In Lomas v Parle the Court of Appeal examines the approach to sentencing perpetrators of domestic violence for contempt of civil orders. The Court of Appeal acknowledges the complexity of domestic violence cases that often involve multiple proceedings in different justice systems. Whilst offering guidance on the management of tensions that may occur as a result of the current fragmented system, the decision suggests that a more radical solution of an integrated domestic violence court should be explored. The possible benefits of an integrated domestic violence court are discussed in this commentary.
