Legislation to Come

The Government draft legislative programme launched in July 2007 includes a Children in Care Bill, the purpose of which is to reform the statutory framework around the care system. A White Paper Care Matters: Time for Change was published in June. Also included in the proposed legislation was the Child Maintenance and Other Payments Bill aimed at establishing the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission (C-MEC) as a non departmental public body and amending the Child Support Act 1992.
