Legal Aid Reform: The Way Ahead was published jointly by the Department for Costitutional Affairs (DCA) and the Legal Services Commission (LSC) on 28 November 2006 and sets out how reforms will be made to legal aid. It follows from consultation on Lord Carter's report over the summer. Changes include:

  • a care proceedings graduated fee scheme from October 2007 following a further consultation early in 2007. Similarly, a revised scheme for family - Help Private from October 2007 following a consultation;
  • the Tailored Fixed Fee Replacement scheme for solicitors and the not-for-profit sector providing civil legal help in October 2007; and
  • revised schemes for family, immigration and mental health work.
