Assisted conception has the potential further to fracture understandings of family life. Legal responses have thrown up ethical and emotional dilemmas. Mundane and almost predictable embryological errors - implanting the 'wrong' embryo, or mixing sperm and eggs from 'unrelated' couples - pose a compelling challenge for medicine and law alike.
