​Law Society Practice Note on File Closure Management

The Law Society has produced a Practice Note for any solicitors in England and Wales who manage caseload and hold files.

The Practice Note provides instructions and advice for efficient file management processes and protocols to ensure orderly ongoing file closure, as well as how to manage risk in order to fulfil client care obligations (Chapters 1 and 7 of the SRA Code are provided as relevant links for further guidance). This note also includes further information about electronic filing, outsourcing and accounts.

Important - this note does not deal with archiving or the destruction of files, which are linked under ‘Other information/ resources’.
