Jonathan Baker appointed to High Court Family Division

Jonathan Baker QC has beeen appointed to be a Justice of the High Court with effect from 2 November 2009 on the elevation of Mr. Justice Munby to the Court of Appeal.

The Lord Chief Justice will assign Mr Baker to the Family Division.

A leading expert in children's law, Mr Baker, 54, was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1978 and took Silk in 2001.

He read law at Cambridge, was called and joined Harcourt Chambers in 1978, and was elected head of chambers in September 2004 and re-elected in September 2008.

He was appointed a Recorder in 2000 and is approved to sit as a deputy High Court Judge.

Mr Baker is the co-author of Contact, The New Deal and The Court Companion to the Public Law Outline, both published by Family Law.
