IT Improvements for Family Courts

David Hodson, Solicitor and Mediator, England and Australia. Family law has always had a disproportionate number of IT dinosaurs and there would be few complaints if some of these became extinct. There are moves from different sources, including HMCS and the DCA, to rework the prehistoric system we have at present into a modern and well thought out electronic family court service. This article envisages some of the improvements and costs savings that might result from a more open approach to the involvement of computerised systems in the court process, including booking court dates in the same way as one might book a seat on an aeroplane and accessing online libraries of legal resources at court.
