Interpreters on the increase

Date:8 JUN 2007

Since April 2004 there has been a significant increase in the number of requests for foreign language interpreters in civil and family proceedings within the county courts and the High Court (from 20 requests a month to on average 100 per month during the past year). Following a Home Office led review, new terms and conditions for individuals providing face to face interpretation services were introduced across HM Court Service (HMCS) with effect from 26 February 2007.
