Date:14 MAY 2007

On 10 May amendments to the Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Bill were debated in the House of Lords during the Committee stage of the Bill. The Government is now supporting Lord Lester's Bill and laid amendments to the Bill in April and May. The Foreign and Commonwealth Offices Forced Marriage Unit also announced on 10 May that it had not ruled out the possibility of creating criminal legislation in the future and was to explore, in a two year strategy, current criminal legislation.
