The Legal Services Commission (LSC) published the long awaited independent evaluation of the Family Advice and Information Service (FAInS) pilot on 28 August. The pilot focused on providing client-tailored information and advice that promoted early agreement to family disputes in line with the Family Law Protocol. The report provides:
an insight into the wide range of issues impacting on family solicitors;
an understanding of the client's experience of the family justice system and legal process.
FAInS was set up in 2001 to assess and develop the support available to couples and families in dispute. The pilot, which ended in March 2007, operated through family solicitors and was independently evaluated by a research consortium led by Professor Janet Walker at the Newcastle Centre for Family Studies.
