Double Dutch: the Relevance of Hague Conventions to Marital Contracts and Maintenance

  ‘It is as common to move from Birmingham to Barcelona as to Barnsley.'

This variation of a quotation by a current Court of Appeal judge demonstrates that family and private client lawyers need to have eyes in the back of their heads when advising clients on marital contracts; and as marital contracts become more accepted and fashionable, so family and private client lawyers need to keep in mind Hague Conventions which, in truth, are little known and little quoted by English lawyers. Let us take a practical look at the terrain via a typical case study.
