This article explores the legal complexities that arise in inheritance and family law disputes involving parentage, particularly paternity.

In trust and estate matters, disputes can occur when a will or intestacy rules refer to beneficiaries by class—such as “children” or “siblings”—requiring verification of biological relationships. DNA testing is often key to resolving these issues

In family law, similar principles apply during divorce or child support disputes. Courts may require DNA tests to establish paternity before making financial or legal decisions, and failing to cooperate can affect outcomes.

The article considers legal options available to resolve parentage disputes, and how the courts have approached these issues in case law.
