The pilot scheme to give the public and media greater access to Court of Protection hearings across England and Wales has been extended to 31 August 2017.The Practice Direction that came into force on 29 January 2016 effectively changed the default position to one where hearings are held in public (with reporting restrictions to protect identities). This means that, when an order is made under the pilot, both the media and the public can attend unless a further order has been made that excludes them.
