Date:1 OCT 2007
The annual statistical containing national figures on referrals, assessment and children and young people who were the subject of a child protection plan or are on child protection registers for the year ending March 2007 were published by the Department for Children Schools and Families in September. There were 27,900 children who were the subject of a child protection plan in 2007: an increase of 1,500 on 2006. Neglect was the most common category of abuse (approximately 44%). The number subject to emotional abuse increased from around 21% in 2006 to around 23% in 2007. Those subject to physical abuse declined between 2006 and 2007 from approximately 16% to around 15% respectively. For further information see November [2007] Fam Law.
