Child abduction cases increase by 22%

Date:22 NOV 2007

Reunite, a charity specialising in international parental child abduction, has released figures about child abduction cases. The figures come ahead of their annual Balloon Launch on Thursday 29th November 2007 at the Town Hall Square in Leicester.

The charity reports that during 2006 it recorded a total of 270 new abduction cases involving 414 children and during the first half of 2007 it recorded a 22% increase in the number of cases of abduction. Overall, 40% of their cases involve countries which are not signatories to the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of Child Abduction, in particular Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and the Middle East.
