DDJs sitting in civil work undertake a large bulk of administrative work in boxwork. This work realistically keeps the wheels of the County Court turning. Case management decisions taken in boxwork are far more rare within the Family Court, albeit there appears to be no particular reason for this. This article considers the rules that exist to make orders without a hearing and whether the ongoing pressures within the Family Court might lead to this occurring more in future than has historically been the case.
