Carter Review of Legal Aid: the Government's response update

Date:20 AUG 2007

David Burrows, Solicitor Advocate. The Government's response to the Carter Review of Legal Aid, Implementing Legal Aid Reform, Cm 7158, serves only to demonstrate the naïveté of the Legal Services Commission and the Government, and their poverty in strategic planning, says David Burrows. The concern about the lack of research underpinning the rushed implementation of the LSC proposals is dismissed in the response because, the Government says, undertaking research would be a lengthy process and clear results cannot be guaranteed. This article takes a critical look at the response and wonders how close to the tipping point matters have come. For the full article see August [2007] Fam Law.
