Cafcass has published its response to the findings made by the President of the Family Division following the publication of the Transparency in the Family Courts report, welcoming the moves to increase public understanding of family court work. Cafcass expressed its support for more transparency regarding the conduct of assessments, but noted that a balancing exercise should be undertaken against the need to safeguard the privacy of those involved in proceedings.
Finally, it stresses that the thoughts and feelings of children and young people must be prioritised, seeking to avoid a potentially harmful situation in which young people learn about their background through media reporting.
