CAFCASS and Safeguarding Children

Date:5 MAY 2006

Consultation began at the beginning of May 2006 on a new CAFCASS framework to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The consultation period will run until 7 August 2006, with the new framework coming into effect in autumn 2006. The safeguarding framework will apply to all CAFCASS staff (including self-employed children's guardians) working with children. The consultation covers:

  • CAFCASS role as an agency responsible for safeguarding children and promoting their welfare;
  • working with children and families - child protection and risk assessment;
  • working together with other agencies; and
  • safeguarding its staff.

Copies of the consultation paper and details on how to respond are available online at www.cafcass.gov.uk/English/Publications/Publications.htm or email consultations@cafcass.gov.uk. See June [2006] Fam Law 430 for the full news article.
