Asylum Seeking Families: Family Support Services and Safeguarding Children
Date:5 FEB 2010

ANDREA HOPKINS, Legal Adviser, Family Rights Group

From February 2006 to June 2009 the Family Rights Group was funded by the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund to run a project providing advice to asylum seeking families who were involved with or needed support from local authority children's services. The core aim of this project was to support children to be raised safely within their families, regardless of the immigration status of themselves and their family. This article brings together key law and practice which can assist an asylum seeking family to establish which local authority support services are available to them at each stage of their asylum claim.
