European Family Law conference

Between 25 and 26 September 2008, the Academy of European Law will be hosting a conference in Trier, Germany, on Current Developments in European Family Law and the Law of Succession, with a focus on maintenance.

With lawyers having to deal ever more with legal questions arising from cross-border family and parental responsibility cases, the conference will a valuable opportunity for practitioners to further their knowledge.

The first conference day will focus on the law of maintenance. After an introduction to the topic, participants will hear from legal practitioners and academics in the field of family law who will report on the current situation on maintenance in several European jurisdictions.

The second conference day will concentrate on the Brussels II bis Regulation, the main source of law for cross-border divorces and parental responsibility. The recently delivered first ECJ judgments on the Regulation will be presented and analysed.
