Stop the Traffik has delivered a historic petition of over 1.5 million sign ups to the Global Declaration from people on all continents of the world.
Stop the Traffik is a global coalition of over 1000 member organisations and active in over 50 countries and was launched in March 2006. It pledged to take a million sign ups to the Global Declaration to the United Nations.
Steve Chalke, Chairman of Stop the Traffik said:
"What use is a petition unless it achieves something remarkable? This is a historic global declaration. Millions of people are not only aware of this crime but committed to do something for the millions who are trafficked."
The group also announced the launch of a new Global Fund committed to fighting trafficking that will cluster projects that follow regional trafficking routes around the world and commit money to prevent, protect and prosecute starting in South Asia. Stop the Traffik also called on the UN to do more to fight human trafficking. Ban Ki Moon said last month: "business growth must also be rooted in practices that respect fundamental human rights that ensure safe and decent workplace condition" More information can be found on the Stop the Traffik website:
