FINANCIAL ORDERS: J v J [2011] EWHC 1010 (Fam)

(Family Division; Moylan J; 20 April 2011)

The husband's wealth was derived from a company founded by the grandfather which was sold in December 2006. The wife sought 50% of the total based on her needs. The husband contended that the wife's needs were lower.

The wife was awarded 46% of the assets on the basis of her needs (a sum of £4.04m). Absent needs, her award based on the sharing principle would have been lower in light of the husband's pre-acquired wealth.
