Lawyer sought for BAAF

The British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) is seeking a legal consultant to work on a half-time basis in Farringdon, London.

BAAF is the leading membership organisation for professionals working in child placement services in the UK.

The post has become available due to the retirement of Deborah Cullen who recently completed twenty-five years as secretary to the Legal Group of BAAF. She came to BAAF in 1983, after four and half years representing the London Borough of Hounslow in care proceedings, and her first task was in connection with the provisions in the Health and Social Security and Social Services Amendment Act which for the first time gave parents some rights to contact (or access as it was then) to their children in care.

Since 1983 Deborah's work at BAAF has included responding to a seemingly ceaseless stream of consultations on child care and adoption law and related issues, as well as trying to keep BAAF members in England and Wales informed about current legal developments.
