One Parent Families/Gingerbread appoints new Chief Executive

Date:5 MAR 2008

National charity One Parent Families|Gingerbread has appointed Fiona Weir as its new Chief Executive.

Fiona is a former Director of Policy and Communications at Save the Children and has worked as Head of Public Affairs at the Consumers Association, Director of Campaigns at Amnesty International, UK and at Friends of the Earth. She brings the charity broad experience as a director and senior manager and as a strong and effective campaigner for social justice and for children.

Speaking about her new appointment, Fiona Weir said:

"I have been impressed by the work of Gingerbread and One Parent Families for many years and feel very privileged to be taking up this post. Lone parent issues are high on the policy agenda with the proposed new work requirements and child support reform likely to impact significantly on the lives of lone parents and their children. The recent merger of One Parent Families and Gingerbread - Britain's leading lone parent organisations - gives the charity a louder and more effective voice for Britain's two million one parent families and the opportunity to deliver a better service to the thousands we will help every year."
