Susan Tilley, Solicitor and Mediator.

I think this particular thing needed somebody a bit more on the ball a bit more used to dealing with factors that were financial rather than emotional because we were not there to repair the relationship."
"The mediators were not knowledgeable enough on mortgage law and mortgages and how they work when you've got somebody who that is their subject arguing it."

These quotes came from two different women who were seen for a research dissertation as part of the MSc degree in Conflict Resolution and Mediation Studies at Birbeck College and the Institute of Family Therapy. Five women were interviewed in depth about their experiences of all issues mediation. One of the findings of the study was that women can be disadvantaged by the process if the mediator is unable to provide adequate information and, little or no support is provided by the legal adviser.
