The Institute of Family Therapy (IFT) opened in 1977 and since that time has established a national and international reputation for its work. In 1987 there began what has become a long and creative relationship with the Psychology Department at Birkbeck College, which validates most of IFT's postgraduate programmes. The Postgraduate courses in Mediation Studies and Conflict Resolution (Certificate/Diploma and MSc) started in 2001 and are part of the work of the Centre for Mediation Studies and Conflict Resolution at IFT.

These courses are the only ones in the UK to offer an academic qualification in conflict resolution and mediation studies and provide the opportunity to train as conflict resolution practitioners and mediators.

The IFT is now accepting applications for the courses starting in October 2006 and ending in July 2007. Those interested should contact julietw@iftnet.plus.com. Further information is available from the course director Lorraine Schaffer on Lorraine@iftnet.plus.com or from the IFT website at www.instituteoffamilytherapy.org.uk.
