Gemma studied English at Cambridge University, graduating in 1990. She subsequently undertook the Common Professional Examination in Law at the University of Westminster, followed by Bar Finals at the Inns of Court School of Law. She was called to the Bar in 1994. She has always had an interest in care proceedings since pupillage and has specialized for some time in that area of family law. She has represented local authorities, parents, children, interveners, other family members, Guardians as well as foster carers and adopters. She has presented several seminars on this area of law, both locally and in London.
