Andrew Smith

Partner | Child & Child
Andrew qualified as a solicitor in 1977, having served his articles with Woodham Smith & Greenwood in Grays Inn. He joined the firm in 1977, initially as a general practitioner, and became a partner in the following year.

Andrew has specialised in litigation since 1987, focusing heavily on property related litigation, principally, party walls and rights of light, easements and construction disputes relating to commercial and residential properties. Andrew has lectured widely to surveyors and to other solicitors and has written several articles on neighbouring land issues such as party walls, rights of light, access to neighbouring land, oversailing licences, rights of way, easements, construction disputes and boundary disputes.

Andrew also deals with cases, often heavy and complex, relating to employment issues, commercial contracts and contested inheritance claims. He co-ordinates the activities of the firm’s dispute resolution department, frequently drawing on the skills of his colleagues.

In addition to dealing with litigation and dispute resolution, Andrew frequently advises businesses and families on a wide range of issues relating to business and family affairs. He is a member of the Law Society Negligence Panel, a past chairman of the Pyramus & Thisbe Club and vice-chairman of the Knightsbridge Business Group.

Andrew has dealt over the years with a large number of notable cases both in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. He represents private individuals and corporate clients (some of whom are high profile) and lending institutions, trusts and offshore companies.
