The Office for Disability Issues (ODI) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have issued joint guidance on using inclusive language when writing about disability and avoiding negative words and stereotypes that are a barrier to understanding the reality of disability.
The advice is aimed at anyone who needs to communicate with or write about disabled people and disabilities. Alongside a list of words to avoid is a helpful set of alternative phrases.
