The Central Family Court has released the Certificate of Financial Complexity that must be completed for a complex financial family case to be referred to the Financial Remedies Unit (FRU). The certificate is accompanied by guidance explaining the role of the FRU and the referral process.

The FRU is a specialist unit within the Central Family Court. It comprises seven full-time courts conducted by specialist financial judges and is headed by His Honour Judge Martin O’Dwyer.

The purpose of the FRU is the efficient handling of complex financial cases, ie cases of such complexity that they are appropriately dealt with in a specialist financial unit.

Alongside the basic details of the marriage and divorce application, the certificate also outlines the potential complexities of the case being referred, including the scale of the sums involved and the potential allegations that may arise.
