The new Practice Directions are made by the President of the Family Division with the concurrence of the Lord Chancellor and apply to proceedings under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 (whether at first instance or on appeal) in the High Court, county courts and magistrates courts. The new Practice Directions come into force on 30 December 2005 and supplement the Family Procedure (Adoption) Rules 2005 (SI 2005/2795), which also come into force on 30 December 2005.
