There is currently no international convention on laws relating to surrogacy arrangements. Different laws in different jurisdictions may therefore apply to the same arrangement. This article looks at the legal position of surrogacy in England and Wales, and in comparison Italy. It also discusses the recognition of foreign orders in Italy relating to the birth of children born following a surrogacy arrangement abroad, the legal status of the child born and the enforcement of parents' rights.
