In cases such as the present, in which there was an allegation by the mother that she had been abandoned abroad without the documents which she needed to regain entry to England and Wales, countered by an allegation by the father that she had abandoned the child, a fact-finding hearing was necessary to determine whether the allegation of abandonment was made out. In the instant case, the mother had been taken to India and abandoned there without her passport, and had not willingly left her child.
