The legal position of parents in same-sex relationships has received substantial attention this year, with a combination of case law developments and new legislation. There is greater legal recognition of how the legally vulnerable relationship between the non-biological parent and the child can be recognised and protected. At the same time, however, some of the limitations of the current position are becoming clearer and there is scope for a more detailed analysis of the needs of non-traditional families and the law relating to parental responsibility.
