On 12 July 2012, The Law Society issued a practice note on providing services to D/deaf and hard of hearing people. The guidance is for all solicitors who meet or speak to clients.

People who are Deaf (whose first or preferred language is British Sign Language), deaf (who have severe to profound hearing loss) or hard of hearing can have specific requirements when using legal services, depending on their personal circumstances and on the style of communication they prefer.

The practice note focuses on different ways to work with individuals who are D/deaf or hard of hearing and provides practical advice.
