It’s the beginning of another year and this means only one thing: the most important and comprehensive family law seminar is back and coming to a city near you.

The Family Law Update ensures you can start as you mean to go on and begin the year on top of all the important developments to equip you for day-to-day practice. Our speakers will take you through the key practice areas, including the latest on financial remedies, public and private children law, all things procedural, plus a range of need-to-know hot topics.

The Update will provide detailed commentary on a variety of aspects of practice and procedure including bundles, confidentiality and publicity, where to issue, Family Procedure Rules changes, together with particular areas such as judgment summons, setting aside including Barder events and recusal.

A host of reported decisions dealing with marital agreements, periodical payments, maintenance pending suit and other interim remedies will be analysed, as will the Law Commission report, ‘Matrimonial Property, Needs and Agreements’ which considers any need for legislative changes to family law. An in-depth look at pensions following the liberations of pension benefits on 6 April 2015, the unintended consequences of liberations, pension attachment orders and updates regarding changes in State Pension effective from April 2016 will also be provided.

The Family Law Update will cover international, public and private children law looking at child abduction, wardship and inherent jurisdiction and litigants in person. Essential hot topics include radicalisation and the use of intermediaries for vulnerable witnesses.

This year Jordan Publishing is proud to introduce a free additional morning seminar at the Birmingham, Cardiff and London updates. Rhys Taylor barrister from Thirty Park Place and 36 Bedford Row will be presenting his paper on Pension Offsetting which addresses the practice of offsetting pensions against non-pension assets, and the divergence of approach towards offset valuations. The paper highlights the sparse case-law on pension offsetting, examines text book accounts of different approaches and touches on recent empirical research.
