Set up at the initiative of the European Parliament, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the German regional state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Academy of European Law (ERA) celebrates its fifteenth anniversary in 2007. This will be marked by a congress on 'The Future of Legal Europe'. The event will open with a round table debate featuring high-level speakers on the subject of '50 years of European legal and political integration'. The institutional, social, judicial and regulatory aspects of the future of a Europe of law will then be addressed through working groups including the following:

  • new challenges facing the judiciary in Europe and the development of a common judicial culture;
  • the European Constitution - the state of play;
  • improving the quality of Community legislation.

  • A summary of the deliberations of the working groups will be presented by rapporteurs on the final day. National and European parliamentarians will close the congress with a debate on the subject of 'What direction for Europe? The finality of the Union'.
