(Family Division, Keehan J, 25 October 2013)

When the parents of the now 5-year-old child separated the mother moved to Russia and applied to stop contact between the father and child. The father issued proceedings in order to locate the mother and child.

During proceedings the maternal grandparents claimed to have no knowledge as to the mother's location. When the maternal aunt was served with a location order the police discovered a telephone number which was thought to be that of the mother. The grandparents and aunt were arrested and brought before the court.

After hearing evidence from all three family members the judge found that they had not been honest about their knowledge of the location of the mother and child. They were remanded in custody pending a sentencing hearing.
