On 15 May the Department for Work and Pensions published its response to the child maintenance White Paper A new system of child maintenance which was published in December 2006 (see [2007] Fam Law 178). The White Paper put forward proposals for a fresh start for child maintenance and will replace the Child Support Agency (CSA) with a non-departmental body led by a Commissioner for Child Maintenance. The Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission (C-MEC) will provide an information and support service intended to help parents to make their own maintenance arrangements where they can or to use C-MEC to establish and enforce payments where they can not.
