Supreme CourtLord Justice Wilson and Jonathan Sumption QC are rumoured to have been appointed to the Supreme Court.

Although an official announcement has yet to be made, the legal commentator Joshua Rozenberg tweeted this week "Jonathan Sumption QC and Sir Nicholas Wilson to be appointed to UK Supreme Court, I'm told. First leapfrog from bar to top court in decades". Frances Gibb also wrote about the appointments in The Times.

They will replace Lord Saville of Newdigate who retired from the Supreme Court last year and Lord Collins of Mapesbury who is due to retire in May.

Sir Nicholas, 66, was a High Court Judge in the Family Division from 1995 until 2005 when he was appointed to the Court of Appeal. The popular judge is the Editor-in-Chief of Jordan's Family Court Practice and, as President of the Family Mediators Association, he has written the forward to the newly published practical guide Family Mediation by Lisa Parkinson.

The appointment of Jonathan Sumption QC, 62, is controversial as he will come directly from the Bar to the Supreme Court without any experience of sitting as a full-time judge. However, Mr Sumption, joint the head of commercial set Brick Court Chambers, is widely considered as one of the country's leading barristers.

According to The Times the appointments are "due to be announced shortly".
